Bijuli Jatra translates loosely as “Festival of Electricity” — a playful reference to the dense tangle of wires, poles and cables that are such a familiar part of Kathmandu’s streetscape.
This hand-pressed linocut draws on the visual intensity of the city: crowded markets, layered architecture, passing figures, street vendors and the web of electricity lines overhead. Rather than simplifying the scene, I wanted to hold on to that sense of abundance and disorder — the kind of street where your eye never quite knows where to settle.
The print is carved and printed by hand, so small variations in ink and pressure are part of each impression.
